At the New York Academy of Art, we believe that the world of visual art is built upon the essential cornerstones of figurative drawing, painting, and sculpture. Mastering these disciplines is critical to the development of an artist's personal vision and, ultimately, to the creation of vital contemporary art.
Mission
The New York Academy of Art is a graduate school that combines intensive technical training in the fine arts with active critical discourse. We believe that rigorously trained artists are best able to realize their artistic vision. Academy students are taught traditional methods and techniques and encouraged to use these skills to make vital contemporary art. The Academy serves as a creative and intellectual center for all artists dedicated to highly skilled, conceptually aware figurative and representational art.
History
The New York Academy of Art was founded in 1982 by artists, scholars and patrons of the arts, including Andy Warhol, to foster a resurgence in the training of figurative and representational art. The Academy has since developed into a non-profit cultural institution housing the nation’s first graduate school of figurative art, a continuing education program, the region’s most in-depth figurative art library, an extensive exhibition and lecture series, and iconic New York City events such as Take Home a Nude and Tribeca Ball.

This class is amazing. I've taken it twice and can't wait to take it again. Watching the demos is just mesmerizing.

Before this class I tried to teach myself and failed miserably. The instructor helped us all with a very well thought out game plane for adding new information throughout the 6 weeks. Now instead of having a very expensive paperweight I have the tools to create some serious art on the iPad. I highly recommend this class!

It was a difficult experience. Marcelo is a wonderful Artist however the virtual experience was difficult and hard to navigate. I want to give him credit for trying to handle it, but/and perhaps it was a little fast with not a lot of hands on help individually. He stated he had a lot of students (80 I think he said). And maybe that’s too many optimally. I’m an older student with strong drawing skills but found myself floundering.

Art classes should not be held on line.
That should be in real life with the teacher
Nothing matches the experience of in real life teaching
Quality was not the same and I love my teacher, but once in went on line we should have been given a discount for the remaining lessons

This was a great class! Great to have two teachers, so that everyone could get guidance. Definitely recommend and will be taking it again!
Do wish it was a little smaller in terms of the number of students. But otherwise, I learned so much from Jesse and Cynthia, they were amazing. They each have there own way of doing things, which at first can be a bit confusing. But in the long run, I think it's really beneficial because you get two different methods & two different design eyes to guide you.
I learned so much in this class and was shocked at how much progress I made in the end!

I can tell the Ms. Fukushima is very knowledgeable and an amazing artist! But it doesn't necessarily translate to teaching well. I did learn some water color techniques in the class and her demonstrations were great!
I felt like she spent too much time individually with other students. Often this meant a "beginner" such as myself being stuck for 30 minutes without help, not knowing how to proceed next.
I'd only recommend it if you have some experience with water color & are more looking for some guidance or additional help. If you have a good understanding of color theory and know some basic water color techniques. Enough so that you can paint on your own while you wait for the teacher to make the rounds.

The teacher was excellent; he was very patient and extremely talented and knew his subject matter very well. He was very supportive and very helpful and gave all of us individual attention and guidance.
