Saturday Afternoon Live

Students in Grades 5-8 learn to write, shoot, direct, act, and edit in their own short films and skits. Each 90-minute class, students will either be writing a new 5 minute movie, filming one, or editing the previous one. We will cycle through the roles of writer, director, cinematographer, actor, and editor so every kid gets a chance to do every job.

What They'll Learn:

• We'll start with the science of storytelling, and how to construct a strong script with a beginning, middle, and end, and the conflict that runs throughout.
• Students will learn how to use the camera, and choose the right angles and shots to meet their vision.
• We'll need actors! The kids will have multiple opportunities to act in the films, and learn how to "act for the camera," including matching shots and finding their mark.
• Lastly, the students will edit their mini movies, learning how to pick "takes" and adjust the tempo of the film using well-timed cuts.
• The 8-week session will conclude with a screening of all the films to show off their movies to family members and friends.
