Ada Goldfeld & Sophia Spector

Teaches at The Art Studio NY

Sophia Spector is an artist, educator, and wholehearted believer that everyone has something to gain from the arts. Sophia treasures the expressive, unpredictable, and cathartic moments that unfold through art-making. Her passion is sharing and fostering these moments with her students of all ages. Whether her students seek technical skills, an outlet for creative self expression, or simply want to explore a new hobby, Sophia is delighted to support their endeavors.

Through her extremely warm, empathetic, and engaging personality, Sophia's art students feel encouraged and inspired to create meaningful works of art. Total beginners in Sophia's art classes consistently share that their fear of making art quickly disappears due to Sophia's calming, upbeat, and non-judgmental teaching style.

Sophia’s own art is inspired by the shared experiences of her friends and loved ones. She enjoys capturing moments in time and also relishes the joy of moving paint around the canvas to imitate light, life, and emotion.

Sophia has been drawing and painting from a young age. She graduated with honors, with a BA in Fine Arts, from Gettysburg College, in Pennsylvania. With a concentration in drawing and painting, she also enjoyed opportunities to study ceramics, metal sculpting, printmaking, and art history.

Sophia’s love for art education was sparked by her role as Studio Assistant for Gettysburg College's Drawing Department. As a recipient of the acclaimed art fellowship at the Corcoran Museum of Art and Design, in Washington, D.C, Sophia continued to hone her skills as an Art Educator. Sophia continued on to earn her Masters of Arts in Teaching from the College of New Rochelle, in New York.

Sophia has since taught art to students of all ages, preschool through senior citizens, and enjoyed the honor of DREAM Charter School’s 2016 Teacher of the Year.

In addition to teaching, Sophia works with a wide variety of schools and program centers throughout the New York Metropolitan Area to bring The Art Studio NY's award-winning art program to locations citywide for kids, adults, and senior citizens alike.

Ada Goldfeld sees art making as an opportunity to make discoveries. No matter an artist’s experience or age, a day in the art studio is a chance to uncover new techniques and modes of expression. This endless realm of possibilities has drawn Ada to art her entire life and now it is her primary goal as an art educator to help students make their own creative discoveries.

Ada’s successful fine arts academic background has shaped the teacher she is today. She graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the acclaimed dual-degree program between Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Having found inspiration and focus in oil paint, Ada pursued graduate school and she received a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the world-renowned art school, Rhode Island School of Design.

Ada’s deep investigation of painting, coupled with her expertise in drawing, multi-media, and theoretical studies, provides a diverse foundation to pull from while teaching, enabling her to help students individually navigate their unique needs, interests, and goals at The Art Studio NY. Through her engaging and attentive, caring personality, Ada is committed to fostering every student’s creative development, and she believes that, by bringing warmth, inspiration, and passionate energy to her classroom, she can help all of her students be surprised and excited by what they can create.
