Great class. Joan was very patient. Class had all different levels. Finished my pajama pants. Learned to use a surger and sewing machine. It’s a lot of info but if you stick with it it’s a great sense of accomplishment. I practiced after every class at home.

The instructor (Ms. Endres) is very knowledgeable and very approachable. I enjoyed the class very much, and money are well-spent. As a beginner, I learned a lot about sewing from the course. During the class, you have good amount of opportunities to have hand-on experience on the machine. I feel very confident to use the sewing machine now. I wouldn't hesitate to attend another class from the same instructor.

I had a great experience. If you have never used a machine before the class moves quickly so make sure to check in with the instructor if you get lost or confused. The instructor was patient, approachable and was able to check in on all students.

Really great class and awesome teacher just slightly over crowded (many students with one off questions / hard to get necessary attention and hard to get access to overlock machine plus irons).

I loved the classes because I didn’t know anything about using a sewing machine and now I know it.

I feel a lot more comfortable sewing. The instructor was knowledgeable and helpful. However, the classes did feel rushed.

The teacher is very good. However, I feel like the course itself should last longer, in order to really digest all the info.

It is a good course and the teacher is amazing. However, if you are truly a beginner you can find it a little difficult. it would have been perfect if there were a couple of classes more.

The classroom was super hot and the humidity was stifling. There was a class before ours, students were always reluctant to leave the classroom.

This class was great. It was pretty beginner-friendly but a few people in the class had some experience and still enjoyed it. The teacher is fun and very helpful. I learned some great skills and plan to take the next level course. Make sure you can attend all of the sessions - there's no make-ups or absences allowed!

Though I have very valid "cons" to present, I would still recommend this course under the assumption that there would be less logistical problems in the future than there were with the course when I took it.

I took "Learn to Sew like a Pro" with my sister, both of us complete and total beginners at sewing.

PRO: The instructor we had, Joan, was excellent at demonstrating in each lesson and answering questions. She clearly has a lot of experience with beginners. Loved her.

PRO: Felt the first few classes were laid out well and gave us time to get used to the machine and sewing seams.

CON: The long and frequent demonstrations that kept us from "keeping up." I do wish that the demonstrations were more broken down and that there would be more focus on the students "following along" than absorbing an hour's worth of steps and information and then trying to replicate the demonstration. Even after being sent to "catch up" with the instructor, she often needed to move on to another demonstration before anyone caught up. It became difficult to recall the details of her previous demonstrations, and that meant she had to repeat a lot of information in answering questions later on. While she was extremely patient in answering questions, it just seemed it'd be unnecessary if we weren't jumping from demo to demo before catching up.

Major CON:My sister and I, and nearly every person who showed up to the course on the last day DID NOT COMPLETE THE PROJECT (Pajama Pants) by the end of the course. That is my biggest complaint. I fully expected to complete the project during the length of the course. I felt disappointed with my unfinished garment.

I do think Pajama Pants a very challenging project for complete beginners, but I understand that the project encourages an intimate understanding of the construction of garments. Perhaps in a smaller class, everyone would complete a project with so many steps.

PRO: The only consolation was that the instructor welcomed us to get in touch with any questions we had with finishing our project. Knowing that I would be able to reach out for support is excellent, and I very much appreciate the instructor for this.

CON: This class also required WORK OUTSIDE of class time-- other than buying supplies like our fabric. There was one class where we were told we needed to complete work at home or we'd fall behind in the next class. Working full-time and having other weekend obligations, this made the class much more stressful for me than expected.

I do think the failure to complete project was perhaps due to things other than the curriculum:

CON: Class size was way too large, but not by design - Both CourseHorse and FIT had the course open and coordination between the two failed somewhere since the class size was much larger than the instructor expected.

CON: At the first class no one who had signed up on CourseHorse was on the registration/attendance sheet. We were told we'd need to ensure on our own, before the second class, that we were signed up properly with FIT.

PRO: Instead, I got in touch with CourseHorse via their LiveChat and one of their reps was more than willing to help and made sure everything was in order. So glad for their excellent customer service!

PRO: My sister and I did leave this course feeling confident we had developed our skills and understanding of sewing enough to take another sewing course or try our hand on other projects.

This course is truly for beginners and is a great intro class for learning to sew on industrial machines. It is a pleasure to attend these classes.
