Andrew Conklin

Teaches at New York Academy of Art

Andrew S. Conklin, a native of Chicago, is a figurative painter whose practice is based primarily on direct observation of the live model and traditional techniques of the old masters.

He holds an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and a BFA from Chicago’s American Academy of Art. He also studied at the National Academy of Design School and the Art Students League.

Conklin's paintings have been exhibited throughout the USA and have won him a number of major awards. He has shown work at the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, The Terra Museum of American Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, and the National Academy of Design, where he was awarded a Julius Hallgarten Prize.

A three-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, Conklin has received the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship, as well as grants from both the E.D. and George Sugarman Foundations.

Conklin has taught in the Graduate School of the New York Academy of Art and Parsons School of Design. He has shared his insights into traditions and techniques of figure drawing and painting in national publications such as American Artist and The Artist’s Magazine, and is represented by Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago.
