iPad Artstudio Pro: Digital Portrait Painting

This exciting new digital painting course will focus on different ways a digital portrait can be constructed. Students will use an iPad or iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, and the application Artstudio Pro. Each week a new topic will be introduced that is relevant to creating sophisticated artistic portraits with integrity. Topics covered, will include color tiling, shapes and edges, color shapes with diversity, and many more features in Artstudio Pro. 

The class will meet via Zoom each Wednesday evening and have a discussion pertinent to the topic of the week. Students will work alongside Steve from the same image, then towards the end of the session, students will email their work for a critique, allowing Steve to draw over it digitally to critique it.

Sessions:
Week 1-2: Grisaille & Color Paint-Over. Black & White Block-in, Canvas Size, Reference View, Brushes, Layers, Line Drawing, Color Value Blocks, Wet Painting
Color Paint-over, Layer Blending Modes, Color Picker, Color Diversity

Week 3-4: Color block-in & Mark Making, Color Shapes: Big Abstract Color Shapes
Micro Tiles- Color Zones vs Color Diversity, Mark Making

Week 5-6: Line Drawing & Texture
Line Drawing & Texture
Line Drawing: Sketch & Refine, Angles, Structure, Plumb Lines, Thin Wash
Texture-Layer Order, Canvas Preparation, Softness Vs texture

Requirements
• iPad, compatible with Apple Pencil
• Apple Pencil
• Artstudio Pro application from the app store
• Some basic familiarity with the iPad would be useful
