What you'll learn in this metal working class:

During this 4 hour metal fabrication workshop, Liam will guide you through welding, metal forming, and machine operation.

This course introduces students to metalworking through an immersive experience of making a small coffee table. It is designed for beginners who want to get a hands-on introduction to metalworking and take home a beautiful product.

Students will be guided through welding, metal forming, and machine operations to construct the frame of the table. After the main frame of the project is created, wood will be used to complete the tabletop surface.

Students will make a contemporary, multi-material table. The legs will be welded steel square tubing, and the tops will be a fine hardwood. The result is a perfect mix of high-quality metalworking with a clean wood finish.

Along with learning the basics of metalworking, the class will cover manufacturing and assembly of metal components as done in a professional metal shop, as well as some basics of wood finishing (for the table tops).

Question from anonymous
Hi, I was wondering if we are able to design our own table or if we will use a standard template? Thank you Gavin Kelly
Answer from Taras K. Verified Educator
Hi Gavin, The table built in this workshop follows a standard template, but have the Choice of 1/4" steel rod or 1/4" x 1/8" steel angle material for the legs, and are encouraged to ask about additions or changes to the template. While we can't guarantee that every idea will translate to a functional design, we love to see people think outside the box! -Liam
