For more than eighty years the Evanston Art Center has been a major force in bringing together people, art and ideas. One of the oldest and largest visual art centers in Illinois, the Evanston Art Center's mission is to make the visual arts an integral and accessible part of the lives of the diverse audiences in the surrounding communities.
The Art Center fulfills this mission through an extensive offering of visual arts classes, public lectures, changing exhibitions, youth outreach activities, and publications, all of which are designed to engage and enrich the individual and the community.
The Art Center was established in 1929 by a group of civic and cultural leaders from the Evanston community. Alice C. Riley was the guiding light of this group of culturally minded citizens. Under her guidance, the Art Center was established and it thrived. Ms. Riley felt the true worth of a community could not be measured by economic success alone, but also had to take into consideration a rich cultural life.

As a complete beginner, this was an excellent course. Although there were others in the class with far more experience than I, everyone was supportive and provided excellent feedback of previous work. Then there was time to learn and practice new concepts. As we got to watercolor and began practicing those techniques, the time flew by as I worked. I highly recommend this course and Sarah as an instructor. Thank you, Sarah!

The class was great and I really enjoyed the instructor. In the future it would be nice to understand the difficulty level as I felt that this class was more on the beginner side. Still turned out great tho!

Leslie is an excellent teacher and I feel very lucky I found this class during Covid. She knows how to teach online and the small class size was helpful. There were several people with different levels of experience in the class and everyone was able to get a lot out of it.

While I definitely found that the class was an interesting introduction to 3D printing and laser cutting, the ability to completely dive into my project was limited. One instructor was unable to be there, thus limiting the amount of attention each participant needed with the software, planning, and execution. I also didn't feel that the course was focused on incorporating jewelry. With the 3D printing, our projects were restricted by the time and complexity. The laser cutting/etching was interesting, but we worked only with wood and were unable to produce work that was jewelry related entirely. Although I had these frustrations, I did enjoy the ability to learn more about these technologies and put them to use. I would recommend reconsidering naming the course to introduction to 3D Printing and Laser Cutting. Overall, I'm glad that I took this chance to participate in a workshop at Evanston Art Center and expect to participate in another in the future.

The teacher was well organized and a good communicator—and the syllabus was just right for an introductory course. There wasn’t enough time to go into depth on any particular subject—but the course was a nice survey on a variety of subjects, including lighting, upholstery, floor plans, color, different styles, and resources. The teacher was flexible, engaging, and responsive to our questions and feedback—and she helped us apply the curriculum to our own homes. Nice mix of hand-outs and hands-on activities. Would recommend.
